Customer Approach
Our History
The Beginning
The Motoquipe name began trading in the late 1960s with a store in the Regent Arcade, Adelaide, but we were involved in the business from March 1987 as a partner in the store located in Northpark Shopping Centre.
In 1991 we opened our second store in Parabanks Shopping Centre and soon after we added Westfield Tea Tree Plaza, Westfield Marion and Myer Centre, Adelaide.
Franchising
Motoquipe began franchising in 1995. More stores were opened in South Australia: Elizabeth City Centre, Hollywood Plaza, Munno Para Shopping Centre, Westfield Arndale and Westfield Westlakes.
In the late '90s we expanded into Sydney, franchising three stores: Westfield Burwood, Westfield Hornsby and Westfield Mount Druitt.
By the mid 2000s we had opened four stores in Perth: Westfield Carousel, Morley Galleria, Midland Gate and Whitford City Shopping Centre.
In 2006 our Northpark store was relocated to Sefton Plaza and a new store opened in Colonnades Shopping Centre. By then we had seventeen stores and were the largest shopping centre based car accessories retailer in Australia.
Online Retailing
The advent of online retailing into the mainstream of Australian households from 2007 has seen a paradigm shift in the behavior of consumers. The Global Financial Crisis struck in 2008 and it became apparent soon after that the concept of having automotive retail stores in shopping centres was no longer viable.
Thankfully we started our venture into online retailing in 2006 selling on eBay. Our online sales were growing steadily and this allowed us to close unprofitable stores and consolidate. Our website was turned into an ecommerce store in 2011 and today we are a pure-play online retailer selling on our website and other platforms including eBay, Kogan, Catch, and Shop.com.
In 2012 we moved into our current head office located in 262 Gilbert Street, Adelaide. Within a few years we quickly outgrew the warehouse.
In 2019 we moved into our second Adelaide warehouse. The new warehouse is 8000sqm and will provide us enough space to continue to grow.
Our headquarters is still located in Gilbert Street, Adelaide, and we are still proudly a 100% Australian and family-owned business.
On March 30 2022, Motoquipe began to accept cryptocurrency as payment for our products, making us one of the early adopters of blockchain technology in Australia.
In December 2022 our office got a brand new paint job and logo update.
